Towards exemplary and sustainable mosques An international competition for mosque design in Dammam

AFAMA x Retal

An international architectural competition was announced today for the design of two local mosques in Dammam, managed by Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture, which deals with the development of mosques in the Kingdom and the world, in partnership with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and in cooperation with the Eastern Province Municipality.

This competition was launched to motivate architects towards enriching the urban environment with innovative designs that elevate the architecture of local mosques. The design should take into account the use of eco-friendly materials as part of the design in addition to the building’s future maintenance and operating costs. The Secretary-General of Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture and the supervisor of the competition, Dr. Mashary AlNaim, stated that the aim of this competition is to change the prevailing concepts and use superior technologies to work on solving all the major problems of mosques socially, environmentally, and economically. AlNaim indicated that holding this type of competition generates new ideas and a cultural movement that bring about the development and change that we aspire to achieve.

For his part, Eng. Abdullah bin Faisal Al-Braikan pointed out that “Retal aims to raise the quality of life in the residential neighborhood.” He added that we involve the community and minds in designing mosques in Retal neighborhoods through this competition to reach exemplary, modern and sustainable mosques. Retal works according to an ambitious vision to provide innovative solutions in the implementation of residential projects that suit the aspirations of its customers, which made it win The Best Real Estate Developer in the Kingdom for two consecutive years 2019/2020.
