Ertiqa’s Motion Graphics Competition Promotes Proper Digital Hardware Disposal

Continuing its digital preservation efforts, Ertiqa, a Computer Rehabilitation Charitable Organization, started a competition for the best motion graphic promoting proper disposal of scrapped hardware.

Held in collaboration Al Fozan Social Foundation and eXtra, the competition aims to promote protecting the environment from electronic waste and has assigned September 20th as the final date for submission of entries to win the SAR30,000 worth of prizes.

“The competition aims to help promote a holistic approach to environmental protection for the benefit of everyone as a collective responsibility,” said Ali Batarfi, Ertiqa’s Director of Corporate Communications. “If not disposed of properly, broken battery-powered or mains-powered devices can easily become toxic waste. Proper disposal involves recycling them into raw materials to be reused in manufacturing.”

He pointed out that those who wish to participate may read the terms and conditions of the competition on Ertiqa's website, ertiqa.org.

Since its inception, Ertiqa has recycled 1,700 metric tons of digital hardware. The charity refurbished more than 60,000 devices that were put back in use at many charities and schools.
