AFAMA addresses the world with multiple cultures and various methodologies
On Wednesday, 4-Shaban-1442, corresponding to March 17, 2021, the first virtual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture was held in its fourth session (2020-2023) and was headed by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Award and in the presence of Sheikh Abdullatif bin Ahmed Al Fozan, the founder of the Award, and also in the presence of all members of the Board of Trustees, namely H.E. Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa (Kingdom of Bahrain), His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, His Excellency Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman bin Obaid Al-Youbi and His Excellency Mr. Khaled bin Abdullatif Al Fozan, His Excellency Dr. Taleb bin Diyaa Al-Din Al-Rifai (Jordan), His Excellency Dr. Ismail Serageldin (Egypt), His Excellency Dr. Khaled Aren (Turkey) and finally His Excellency Eng. Hajj Issa Mohammad (Malaysia). His Excellency Dr. Mashary bin Abdullah Al-Naim, Secretary General of the Award, also participated in the session.
At the beginning of the session, His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, welcomed the attendees and then delivered a speech in which he praised the achievements of the Award and its role in promoting mosque architecture in the world. His Royal Highness also praised the remarkable development in the Award’s work methodology and its transformation from a mere institution that grants architectural awards into a comprehensive architectural research institution involved in the advancement of mosque architecture in the world.
Then His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais delivered his speech in which he praised the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in caring for the Houses of Allah and also praised the great role of the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture in improving the mosques’ visual and aesthetic environment.
After that, the Secretary General of the Award reviewed the Award’s achievements in the third session, and His Excellency reviewed the work strategies of the fourth session, the Awards nomination conditions and the Award’s main achievements therein. Then, the members of the Board of Trustees made important interventions to develop the Award’s work and the importance of compatibility of the Award’s plans with various cultures in the world, confirming its universality.
In conclusion, everyone extended their thanks and appreciation to the founder of the Award, Sheikh Abdullatif bin Ahmed Al Fozan, for his generous effort and permanent sponsorship of community activities, as the Award is considered a fundamental initiative of Al Fozan Social Foundation.
