Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture Participates in Riyadh Cityscape
Riyadh: Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture participated in the global Cityscape exhibition held in Riyadh from September 10 to 13, 2023. This participation is part of the award's community role and its belief in professional and knowledge-based partnerships.
The award presented two lectures as part of the Cityscape events. The first lecture was titled "The Five Principles of Saudi Housing Design" and was delivered by the Secretary-General of the award, Dr. Mashari Al-Naim. The second lecture, titled "Architectural Competitions and Their Impact on Urban Development," highlighted the importance of architectural competitions in the development of future mosques and their impact on urban fabric. This lecture was delivered by the award's consultant, Dr. Hani Al-Hanidi.
The presentation also included architectural competitions for mosques as a model. The award presented an overview of the "Ratal Mosque Design Competition," which the award organized in partnership with Ratal Urban Development Company in 2022.
The participation aimed to emphasize the importance of mosques as the nucleus of cities and the most significant influence on shaping and developing urban areas. It is worth mentioning that the concept of the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture emerged as an appreciation of the significance of mosques in cities and communities. It was launched in 2011 to become a global platform contributing to the development of knowledge about contemporary mosque architecture worldwide. This is achieved through major awards presented every three years for the best mosque architectural designs, as well as the World Mosque Architecture Congress and, finally, the Mosque Arts Congress in partnership with the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra).
